Non-destructing editing
2

I don't understand the critique. Non-destructive editing is unnecessary when you are working with JPEG or TIFF, preserving the original, and exporting to a more Web friendly format.

Non-destructing editing is never necessary. It is merely far more convenient when the edits will be relatively extensive / multi-step and maybe an iterative process. And its value has very little to do with whether you're working from a raw file or a 16-bit TIFF or a highly-compressed JPEG.
