Why are some RF lenses heavier and bulkier than EF counterparts ?

Some RF lenses, such as the 50mm 1.2L and 85mm 1.2L are heavier and bulkier than their EF counterparts. Same applies to the14-35 f/4L compared to the EF 17-40L. The latter has a slightly longer focal length, but the much shorter flange distance allows an easier wide angle design, as the 'mini' lens RF 16 f/2.8 shows.

Others are indeed lighter such as the 70-200 f/2.8L, the 24-105 f/4L is a tad heavier.

In this era of modern and light materials like magnesium alloys or even durable ABS plastic, why are some lenses so bulky and heavy ?
