Diffraction - when does it set in...on APS-C ..on FF..on 1/2.3" sensors..

I read a bunch over the years about diffraction at smaller apertures, and how it deteriorates the I.Q.

Used to be the non pro lenses were not sharp wide open, but stopped down 1 or 2 stops and sharpness is better...but then as you stop down more...diffraction starts to kick in,  robbing details/resolution.

Using the Z 50 with DX Z 50-250mm lens...I see plenty of details at f/6.3 and f/8:

Full size image f/8  max zoom

But was this more a thing years ago, with older glass?

max zoom f/8 cropped to 4.33MP  Still seeing good feather details,

Zoom in to see the feather details a plenty. f/8 at max zoom

See next thread below this one, to see f19 at ISO 4000...Full size image at ISO 16,000 , f/8 and fur details....and even a few 1/2.3" pinhead sensor with loads of details

Stay healthy
