So all the hype about mirrorless was for size and weight but so far all the mirrorless lenses are larger than their previous counterparts. This is not a scientific analysis but this is a 30k/ft comparison using a 50mm lens which shows the differences are still minor.

Yes, mirrorless is quiet, I'll give it that.

NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8 S [ 3.0 in. (76.0 mm) x 3.4 in. (86.5 mm) 14.7 oz. (415 g) ] %17 Wider / %55 Longer / %63 Heavier
AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 D [ 2.5 in. (63.5 mm) x 1.5 in. (39.0 mm) 5.5 oz. (155 g) ]

NIKON Z 7II [ 4.0 in. H x 5.3 in. W 21.7 oz. ] %19 Shorter / %9 Narrower / %33 Lighter
NIKON D850 [ 4.9 in. H x 5.8 in. W 32.3 oz. ]

[ NIKON Z 7II + NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8 S ] 36.4 oz. = %4 Lighter but %55 Longer
[ NIKON D850 + AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 D ] 37.8 oz.

The statement that all the mirrorless lenses are larger than their previous counterparts is false.

See: 14-24 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, 50MC, 14-30, DX 16-50, 28mm f2.8

Some may be physically longer, but they can also be lighter in weight against their F-mount counterparts.

See: 105MC, 24-200, 70-200 f2.8

And that's before accounting for the difference between the bodies. When you compensate for the weight difference between the bodies, some of the Z body+lens combination will become lighter and some shorter than their D780+lens combination.

See: 24mm f1.8S, 85mm f1.8S, 35mm f1.8S

That leaves just the F-mount's 20mm, 50mm 1.8, and the 50 f1.2 ais lenses, which are so small and light the Z mount can't really fight them on size and weight. But the Z mount also has the 40mm f2, which I'll take the liberty of calling it the Z's nifty-fifty, and compared to the F-mount's nifty-fifty, the 40 f2 will be just a tiny bit shorter and tiny bit lighter.

The more accurate statement to make is "Despite the size and weight disadvantage, some DSLR combinations can be smaller and lighter than their Z-mount counterparts."
