I've not read that before. What is the science/rationale behind it? Not questioning your suggestion - just interested: perhaps reduced temperature forces condensation of moist air?

Frost-free also removes moisture from the air inside. Between that and the dessicant, any ambient moisture gets removed. I revived a phone this way when I got caught in a downpour, and within seconds the pocket my phone was in got drenched. All I could do was back it up and get my photos off, but that was enough that I didn't mind havingto get a new phone.
