35 f/1.8 S and 40 f/2

This image from Nikonrumors shows the physical difference between the two lenses:

The 35 is almost twice as long and more than twice the weight. The charts, from Nikon:



Certainly the 35 is better. A question to specialists: how visible is this difference? The 35 uses 11 elements, the 40, 6. Nanocoating on the 35, likely better flate control. Possibly better aberrations control.

I have the older 35 f/2 D Lens, which I like, small and light, have taken great images for my requirements with it. Is this 40 about similar? Its chart looks much worse:
