Focusing at Wider Apertures for Portraits - Fujifilm XT30

Hey Guys,

I just wanted to run by how you guys focus for your portraits at wider apertures like 1.4-2.8.

I’m finding it hit or miss for me in terms of getting eyes in focus especially if I’m going for a full body shot where my subject is farther away.   I’ve tried AF-S, focusing on the nearest eye but the slightest movement of me or my subject throws the focus off, whereas if I use AF-C with face detect, sometimes the face isn’t detected properly or it is, but the focus ends up turning soft.  I’ve tried manual focus as well, confirming w/ focus peak highlight and standard zoom that my subject is in focus, but the face/eyes sometimes turn out soft.

I primarily shoot with my Viltrox 56mm 1.4 lens coupled with my xt30.
Would love to hear your thoughts.
