Live View Goes Black In Low Light X1D, X1DII, 907X

Has anyone noticed that the Live View goes black and ceases to function way too early as the light decreases? In other words LV does not gain up enough for composition or focus in pre-dawn situations nor will LV function for composition or focus for Milky Way shots. It will capture and preview the image perfectly but Live View goes black too early. It’s as if there’s a low light wall where, once reached, the LV quits. I was night shooting a 907X next to a guy with a Canon 1D4 and his live view was bright and clear enabling him to compose and focus. My live view was anything but live. I love the 907x but this is a big problem. Any ideas, similar experience or work around out there??
