From what I remember reading, the Merrill sensor didn't play well with adapted lenses.

For some reason, the Quattro sensor doesn't have that issue (or it isn't as bad).

Also unsure how well either sensor type will work with a shorter flange distance and adapted lenses.

I may be in the minority, but I'd be fine with an SA mount release, especially if it was a Merrill re-issue. The lenses I have would work.

Mine too, but unfortunately Sigma won't be doing that. I'd like to see an updated SD1 Merrill, with faster operation, improved auto-focus, live-view, a better rear screen (similar to the screen on my SD Quattro H), and longer battery life.

Wouldn't hold out for an "H", either.

I won't hold out for anything at this point. I'm planning to get a Sony A7r IV as soon as I can. I have an MC-11 adapter, so I can use all my SA-mount lenses on it, and it has really good auto-focus, a mechanical shutter, a built-in viewfinder, long battery life, IBIS, and a tilt screen. I don't see Nikon or Canon introducing anything with a sensor that captures more pixels to make higher resolution images, so the Sony is what I'll get . . . and then maybe in the future I will get a little Sigma fp-L too . . . with that 35mm f2 . . . and an MC-21, so I can put all my SA-mount lenses on it.

I do not doubt that an existing generation Merrill or Quattro image that is good (in-focus, etc) will print just fine to 40 x 60.

I've seen them, and they aren't bad, but I want more resolution. I've seen prints from a Fuji GFX100, and they look better to me.
