For some reason Big Sur has refused to show SD cards titled "Untitled" in Finder's sidebar, but they have still been accessible on the Desktop and elsewhere in Finder. But... has Apple actually fixed this behaviour!? I just inserted an SD card from my Fuji into my card reader and there it is, in my Finder sidebar!

A few months ago Fuji released a F/W update for the Pro3 that came close to bricking the camera. It had to do with if the camera used a bluetooth connection then it became non responsive after a short period. I managed to get into the menu and delete the bluetooth paring and the camera worked fine. I normally update F/W using the app on my phone. Fuji in a few days related another F/W update to fix their screwup in the first.

I formatted the card in my camera, put it in the card reader and boom it came up just like any disk on my Mac (Big Sur). Copied the F/W to the card and updated the camera.

You said the camera is listed as a USB PTP. That pretty much answers the question. I think the issue is the camera is mounted as a PTP device which has limitations. Also in this configuration, the camera maintains control of the exchange not the computer.

Maybe this will help.
