Re: FTZ adapter firmware update broke autofocus on 18-35mm D?

Hi,

Hey! Now that you mention it....My AI-P 500/4 doesn't auto focus!

I never did get the AI-P variant of the 45/2.8 although I did think about it a few times. I have the original GN version and went back to using it on the Df. That's a Pre AI lens and so needs the flip up AI tab on the Df. Ought to work on a Z though.

And now that brings up more Nikon Alphabet Soup. Pre-AI isn't an official designation. The GN is a Type-K rather than a Type-A... But maybe we should leave the remaining Alphabet Soup alone....

And, for those unfamiliar, the GN means Guide Number. It's a special design for use with flash bulbs and early electronic strobes. It has a Guide Number ring that you set for your flash. It then couples the focusing and aperture rings. As you focus closer, the aperture stops down. And it opens up as you focus further away. Works amazingly well.

Nikon revisited the lens minus the GN for the FM3a and added the distance chip and encoder strip making it an AI-P lens.
