One thing is that the price of EF glass is rising too. Making the RF look better value.

When it's not.

I bought an R5 plus RF 100-500 early on, as this suited me best. I think the lens was £2600 and now it retails, if you can find it in stock, for over£3000.

Just can't help but think Canon is puting profits first.

(Also have the EF 400 DO II which is awesome on the R5, solid as a rock with the adapter, could only find a mint used one and a dealer said they won't be making more until December 2021 - I doubt that! Maybe 202?)

I'll accept natural disasters and Covid have made a big difference to the way things should have gone, but that's life I suppose!

The price of the RF 100-500 is absolutely horrendous and I have no idea where Canon got that price from. Currently going for £2979 whereas on emount you can get Tamron’s new 150-500 zoom for £1379. Sure it doesn’t take TCs and is capped at 15fps on the A9/A1 but for a £1600 saving I think many would accept that. If this lens was available on RF mount with the same caveats how many of you would buy it over the Canon option?

In the EF era, Canon lenses were always the best value (which is one of the main reason I bought into it). In the RF era Canon still looks very good value (although prices have increased because of inflation/Covid). In the example above, you are comparing a mid range lens (Tamron) to a professional level lens (Canon). Now Canon has concentrated on the high end lens initially with RF, but have some good value lenses all ready (50mm, 35mm etc) and 2 more ones coming next week ($300 16mm and $650 100-400mm). Now have a look at prices of lenses on E or L mount, you won't find any recent lenses that cheap.

People compare cheaper with more expensive all the time. If the Tamron was available on RF mount I highly doubt Canon would have priced their 100-500 at the current price. If you want to compare pro grade lenses then Sony's 200-600mm is currently £1599.

As for cheap lenses on e-mount there are plenty ;

Tamron

24m f2.8 - £239

35mm f2.8 - £239

20mm f2.8 - £299

70-300 - £529

Samyang

75mm f1.8 - £379

35mm f1.8 - £359

24mm f1.8 - £459

18mm f2.8 - £349

14mm f2.8 - £529

45mm f1.8 - £349
