While I was wearing a baseball cap while taking these photos, I put the same hat back on just now and looked through the viewfinder and found it pretty much impossible to get it far enough forward to be visible through the viewfinder or to see any real effect on the lighting as seen through the viewfinder.

I also can't quite figure out how that could explain the same behavior occurring in a landscape picture on the right side of the frame as shown here.

It seems the commonality in all the affected photos is the vignetting always shows on the right side of the frame in landscape and corresponding (top based on my camera hold) side in portrait.
