I do regret going with the RP due to lack of viable third party choices and the prices of canon's own lenses and if I could go back I'd just wait to go mirrorless or go with a different brand.

You think so? I use the R5 with some EF lenses (the Tamron 70-200/2.8, and the old EF nifty fifty). I don't feel like the lenses are hurt by using them on the adapter, and I still get the benefits of the R5 without any worse performance than the lenses would have on the old DSLRs. (Although the RP doesn't have it, having IBIS for the 50/1.8 is nice, too.) To me, one of the reasons I went with the R5 was because it'd have a good amount of RF lens support in the future, while still having access to the EF lens library. There are plenty of third-party lenses there.

I understand that but with larger lenses/heavy e.g. my tamron 100-400 I don't feel comfortable with them on the adapter like they're going to break or something, there's just something about having that adapter that annoys me (it's stupid on my part really).

Considering the adapter was designed to accommodate the absolutely TREMENDOUS EF telephoto primes that Canon has (including this, the 1200/5.6, https://ymcinema.com/2021/06/09/the-worlds-longest-af-lens-is-for-sale-original-price-90000-meet-the-canon-ef-1200mm-f-5-6-l-usm/), I think you're fine. (Of course, THAT lens needs a tripod, but you know...)

I am aware it's perfectly okay, just feels like it's not alright if you can understand that

Yeah, it makes some visceral sense. I do think that the affordability of RF gear will increase over time, though, as it gains a greater foothold in the market and competition crops up from third-party manufacturers. Still, it's going to be expensive for now.
