Typical shutter speeds for portraits in a studio?

Flash meter

If you have enough money, by all means buy a flash meter, but if you're on.a budget, try to go without it for a few shoots.

If you feel it would be better to have one, see if you can rent or borrow one. I bought one used but sold it again at a loss because I didn't see an improvement to my shots.

But now I'm tempted to try again because Karen said so
