I can relate to this, from my experience with manual focus and auto focus macro lenses.

There's a sense of accomplishment when the MF shot is pin-sharp where you needed it to be sharp.

There's a sense of utter frustration when the AF lens focuses on the completely wrong thing, over and  over again.
