I have both right now.  I cant choose either.   I bought the Sony since it was on sale for education discount at $620.  Tamron zoom is quite light for what it is.  I disagree that it should go to 35mm like other posters said.  Its size and quality make it very usable and the 35mm end can be found on other zooms.  The Sony 1.8 is really good for low light and you can get some blur if needed.  Sony is lighter and better built.  The Tamron is more practical yet I keep taking the Sony, here is one taken with the Sony.
