I gave my then girlfriend my D70. She's done beautiful work with it. It goes to show that it's not the tool, it's the photographer.

Robert,

There's certainly a LOT of truth in this! However, a corollary is that the tool makes the work MUCH easier, in many cases! While one CAN shoot sports, say, at a high level with a D3100, having a D5/6, or even a D500, will make it a LOT easier to consistently get good results!

Sam, no argument from me on your corollary. That's why I progressively moved up to better bodies and currently do most of my shooting with a D500 or D850. Although the D300 and D700 still get some use.

Robert,

I have to say my D700 and D300 are sitting on shelves, for the vast majority of their lives, now. Although, I may bring one of them out again soon, when I'm shooting football, if it's during a day game. But I think that most of the high school games I'll be shooting are nighttime games, so... I don't know, though. I DID use them before I got my D500, so...
