What will you be shooting two years from now?

I foresee no significant changes or shifts in my shooting, in the next two years, and maybe even the next five to ten years. My wife and I upgraded significantly, in the 2017 to 2019 time frame, and neither of us feels a need to keep up with the latest big thing. We very much appreciate the great steps forward, in Nikon’s AF technology, that appeared in the D5, D500, and D850 generation of DSLRs. Our most important need for technology is for species identification, in the “citizen scientist” context.

If volume of images is the determining factor, Nikon F mount is my “main” system, used for general nature, birds, wildlife, much general photography, and some macro. Canon was my main system, until early 2018, as I had prioritized macro and close-range until then, both for evidentiary/forensic/crime scene photography, while on duty, and during much personal time. I did not switch, but shifted what I was photographing, while already being a two-system shooter. Canon remains important for macro, and/or when I need to use multiple Speedlites, and, some dabbling in landscape photography.

I added a third system, after I retired, in 2018, Leica M. If I do shift away from DSLR shooting, to more of “old guy walking around, with a nice camera,” it will probably be with the Leica M system, but I doubt this will have progressed, very far, within the two-year reckoning period, for this poll.

By accident of availability, I learned to use Canon and Nikon DSLRs at the same time. I love specific lenses made by both Canon and Nikon, too much to quit either system. Since 2018, Leica-M has been my “mirror-less” system. I am, certainly, not an expert.
