Re: Fast lenses for night action shots

Another vote for the KamLan 50mm MKII, it is a great lens. At its brightest aperture it will suffer a bit in image quality, but it sharpens up pretty quickly. Read Dustin Abbott's review on it. https://dustinabbott.net/2019/06/kamlan-50mm-f1-1-mk-ii-review/

It really is an excellent lens and I'd also vouch for the KamLan 28m F1.4 which may even be a bit better for your uses. The reason for the latter is that it has a wider FoV and depending on subject you may be able to get more people in your frame, and in focus even with a shallow depth of field. The 50mm will have a more shallow depth of field with its F1.1 and focal range. Also the 28mm F1.4 is much lighter, and has just a bit quicker action on its manual focus ring.

Put it this way, I loved the XF 27mm F2.8 but the image quality of the Kamlan wide open and stopped down to a comparable aperture handily beat the diminutive XF27mm imo. Also, the aperture control of the Kamlan 28mm is really conducive to manual focus shooting as it is not stepped, allowing you fine control over the image quality rapidly. I'd love to get the newer XF27mm WR version with aperture but the Kamlan is so good that it makes little sense to do so.
