Images from our recent visit to the North of England.

All shot raw, then processed/ occasionally fiddled with (sometimes seriously).

(S/w: DxO PL4 Elite, Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, Topaz DeNoise AI/ Sharpen AI/ Studio 2).

Phil and Karen

The Angel of the North, Gateshead.

Completed in 1998, it is the largest sculpture in Britain. The steel figure is 20 metres (66 ft) tall, with wings measuring 54 metres (177 ft) across. The wings are angled 3.5 degrees forward to create, according to its designer Antony Gormley, 'a sense of embrace'.

Seahouses Harbour, Northumberland.

North Sunderland Harbour (its correct title), began life as a small wooden jetty between two natural rock promontories. It lies at the east end of the village of Seahouses in close proximity to the Farne Islands (which can be seen in the distance).

Lindesfarne Priory, Holy Island, Berwick-on-Tweed.

This was one of the most important centres of early Christianity in Anglo-Saxon England. It is still a place of pilgrimage today, the dramatic approach across the causeway (covered during high tide) adds to the site's fascination. St Aidan founded the monastery in AD 635, but St Cuthbert, prior of Lindisfarne, is the most celebrated of the priory's holy men.

The Cherry Orchard, The Alnwick Garden, Northumberland.

This has the largest collection of ‘Taihaku’ in the world. Comprising of 329 trees, they all bloom together for up to two weeks around the end of April/beginning of May.

High Force Waterfall, Aira Force, Matterdale, Cumbria.

The lesser-known cousin of nearby Aira Force. High Force sits a quarter of a mile uphill of its more famous neighbour.
