I assume you didn't mean to preclude the ladies in this forum from replying.

I love digiKam. It's a free, open source program. It's easy to use, flexible, & does so many useful things. It has made the tedious-but-important organizational work less daunting. I use it every time I work with photos -- edit with photo editors, digiKam for everything else (culling, viewing, tagging, moving, resizing, minor corrections & touch ups,  uploading).

My primary method of finding photos is to search by keyword. A photo can have all kinds keywords assigned to it. For example: rainbow, Hawaii,  tropical, landscape, river, family vacation. That's a flexible way to find photos -- you don't have to remember which folder you pigeonholed the picture in, no cumbersome file name to fiddle with.
