Re: RF 24-240: Digital artifacts @ 240mm. Normal?

Certainly, this is not normal. It would help if you explained it this an out-of-camera JPEG or RAW image. If it is RAW, then what software did you use. I think it is unlikely that it is caused by the amount of zoom. Still, I tend to doubt the problem is in the software conversion.
On the surface, it looks like the file got corrupted, either a bad flash, in the camera writing to the flash, or in the data being transferred. On what medium did you store the image on and how did you transfer the image to the computer? Some things to try:
- Try resaving the file.
- Whatever you did, I would try a different method (if you say used a card reader, then try with the camera's USB cable or vice versa).
- Try a different flashcard.
- Also, try taking some test shots with storage to both cards and see if both files agree.
- Run flashcard checking software

Just got a RF 24-240 for travel and noticed when I shoot at max zoom w/ my R5 I frequently end up with a frame of digital artifacts surrounding the picture. It's only noticible in processing. I don't see it in-camera, either when shooting or reviewing. It also doesn't occur 100% of the time -- maybe 95%. And it's only at 240mm exactly. Aperture doesn't matter.
I don't see this with any of my other RF lenses so I'm sure it's not my camera. I know the RF 24-240 is a quirky lens at max wide, requiring s/w correction to remove harsh vignetting, but is this true at max zoom too? Is the "artifact frame" in my picture "normal" for this lens and assumed the user will crop it out?
