I've only shot roller derby once, and it was with a 70-200 on a 7D. The zoom was nice, I must admit. The action can vary from quite close to kind of far. In saying that, if 135mm was the only focal length you had, I'm sure you could get creative with your cropping, both in camera and in post prod.

I remember shooting roller hockey with an 85 1.8 when that was all I had and got some cool shots. I guess what I'm saying is that either way, you will get good results.

The zoom may be a bit more versatile overall, but the 135 has a great reputation for image quality and focus speed/accuracy. Sorry, that is a real fence sitter answer. I guess it comes down to what you value most.
