As per my title ! Simply an awesome lens on my R5.

I had the EF and now the RF.

Heavy yes, big, yes ... but it doesn't feel heavier than I remember the EF version.

Autofocus feels like it is 50% quicker than the EF (II) that I had on a 5D3. Whether it is or not I don't know but it at least feels that much quicker.

I have only really looked at f1.2 but have taken a load of images up to f7.1. I must admit I am unlikely to move it far off f1.2 but guess f2 or f2.8 will get used and still show good separation of the subject from background.

Image quality ... it is the sharpest lens I own and I have the 50 f1.2 and 28-70 f2 too. It is noticeably the sharpest and the others are great themselves which shows just how sharp it is. I never had any issues with IQ on the older EF II but I know some reviewers have shown this to be better re flare etc.

I have found in my brief experience that f1.2 is far easier to 'hit' with the R5 than it ever was on the EF version.

The sharpest images I ever took were with the EF version so I have to try and reproduce them with the RF. Interestingly the EF version produced, for me, it's best and most usable images at f2 for portraits. I think I can be more daring with this one thanks to the autofocus of the R5 combined with this lens.

Would I recommend this. Absolutely. I think it is a truly great lens.

Yea I owned the EF version of the 85 f/1.2 and it was an amazing lens for portraits. But I sold it to help fund my RF 70-200 f/2.8 that is also an amazing lens. But I did get the RF 50 f/1.2 figuring I would use it more and I do. For portraits its not AS good, but pretty close. For everything else, it's scary sharp.
