I am likely to buy one of these lenses - just waiting for a bargain to show up.

One of the few negative points that comes up in reviews for this lens is its lack of a tripod mount. In this instance though, I will be using the Canon EF-M adaptor which has its own mounting plate. Is this therefore a non-issue for me, or is there any reason why I can't just use the mount on the adaptor?

Canon's EF adapter and tripod foot are very robust.  Mount up and don't give it a second thought!  I've been using one for years.

I've actually heard just the opposite about lenses - that the Sigma works very well on the M Series.

Can't go wrong with either then?  As long as you can get firmware updates from Tamron.
