IAs a conclusion, at least for me, "standard" focals (17mm, 25mm, 45mm) reveal easier to use than more "exotic" ones (15mm, 20mm).

Putting both the 15 and the 20mm in the category of exotic ones shows your ignorance of lens history .the 30mm is indeed a odd focal length but this not TRUE at all for the 40mm

back in the film days , the 40mm FOV was a very common and popular normal focal length along with the 35mm and 50mm . Minolta had a M lens 40mm , the Rollei 35 most common focal length was 40mm.. also the canonet

Even todays most companies have a 40mm fov like fuji for both aps and medium format GFX. Sony just added a 40mm single focal length

and this is just for a start

20mm (or its 40mm equivalent) in 4:3 aspect ratio is different from the same in 3:2, at least I like it in 3:2 more, while couldn't get used to in 4:3.

Are your historical and current examples all in 3:2, aren't they?
