Same problem as I remember it. In this case it gave the out of focus image from the get go.

Shooting at F4.0 makes the result closer because you have more DOF, but the half press , wait, full press clearly is more in focus/has more detail.

Full press on the left, half shutter-wait for af- full press on the right:

This is how the all the other Olympus cameras I have tried behave pretty much. With some hits sometimes, but enough misses to make it unreliable.

I get the same result on my EM1.2, even though SAF Release Priority is Off. On full press, it is OoF, on half press it confirms AF quickly and continuing to full press produces an in focus result. On full press, there is no AF confirmation. I almost never full press the shutter, so I've never noticed this before.

ok so it confirms my issue then.
this doesn’t happen with the other Panny lenses or Olympus lenses. It’s only this lens

note that on a Linux camera this is kit an issue.

I'm assuming the reason for the first frame of a CAF burst being OoF is the same effect.

for contrast only camera - like penf ep7 etc of Olympus the first frame or two are often out of focus when shooting c-at in a sequence. I think the issue is that Olympus said a while back coming the em1 mkii generation they look at the shots taken to gather extra data on how they were doing in a sequence of being in focus or not

i think this extra data helps the em10 mkiv and ep7 immensely then to be able to do a sequence with several hits but the beginning or single shot c-at is faulty

I wonder if micro-focus adjustment might help.

Thanks for pointing this out.

you are welcome to be clear : I love this lens I am carrying g it right now just a quirk to know about

Andrew

I like it too.  Just tried on the GM1 and it works fine on full press, although AF is slower than on the EM1.2,  in fact full press on the GM1 is slower than half press->confirm->full-press on the EM1.2.

Thanks for the insights.

Andrew
