None of that matters much - hardware failure, malware, viruses , ransom attacks or whatever - if you have a sound backup strategy. Fix the hardware if there's a failure, reload your backup image and end of problem.

If the C: contains only the OS and programs, with all data on other drives, I find life is easier by periodically cloning it to an identical (but external) drive.
