Using an electronic viewfinder with strobes.

Today I used my X-T3 on a session instead of my big Canons.  Everything went really well when I was using hot lights, but when we moved to a room where I use strobe (Alien Bees triggered by Radio Poppers), I found that I was looking into a very dark EVF, hoping that I got the AF point on the model's face.  Everything went fine, but I was wondering if anyone has come up with a good workaround for this?  I guess I could use a flashlight or something as a modeling light.
