Monopod for Video

I don't know how many forum participants use a monopod for video, especially one with collapsable little legs, but I thought that I would post my experience.

I am no longer a young person, and my balance has deteriorated with age. As such, handheld video—even when the camera has IBIS, such as my S1h—results in jerky static acquisitions and dizzying pans.

I had already been using a RRS monopod for stills with a Fuji GFX100 and GFX100s, so I'd decided to give it a try with the S1h mounted in a Small Rig cage. The RRS monopod head was a no go right from the start, so I'd replaced it, initially with a BH-55, and when that proved to be a poor choice for video, an Arca Swiss B1, which was slightly better. But with neither of the aforementioned heads cutting the mustard and making me feel secure and confident with the weight of the S1h in a cage, a Black Magic Video Assist 7" 12G monitor/recorder and a shotgun mic, I'd decided to bite the bullet and purchase a true video head. Enter the Libec NH-30. For my purposes, this costly solution has saved the day. It works beautifully with the aforementioned camera and accessories and is rock solid, even on the monopod. And the quick release plate makes attachment and removal a breeze, as compared to the typical Arca Swiss base used with non video heads.

My guess is, that most people look to a tripod when stability beyond one's own hands is called for, but a monopod might just come to the rescue and make for a lighter carry and quicker setup.
