Re: What do you use for 4K storage in the cloud? Nothing.

Viewing and sharing is the goal so cloud is better than hard drive + NAS, especially if I want to throw in the criterion of little to zero setup/maintenance.

That also addresses a couple other concerns brought up such as video formats. I do have big drives, may get a fancy router at some point with built-in NAS capability. I prefer not to maintain a dedicated NAS box though that may change if I eventually get into serious video with more storage requirements than the <2min shorts I'm sharing now.

Having them deleted or charged for in the future, based on track record of cloud services, would be handled with plenty of advance warning. Attacks that result in loss are exceedingly minuscule risks IMHO.

The main thing that something like Youtube lacks vs a paid service such as Goog/Amazon Photos is auto-backup from any device. For now I'm using the Amazon Photos 5GB limit (I see it's increased from the 500MB mentioned during OP lol) and just culling older stuff when it fills up. But would be nice too to be able to avoid the periodic maintenance.
