Viltrox 23mm f/1.4: decentering and focus problems?

I need your help to decide whether I have a bad copy of this lens or whether the image quality issues I'm seeing are to be expected.

The basic problem is that my Viltrox 23mm f/1.4 lens misses focus (and/or produces very soft images) when focused on the right hand side of the frame using my X-S10. This is the second version of the lens that I've had that is worse on the right hand side.

This is especially bad at portrait distances (subject approximately 2m from sensor) which is extremely annoying because the right hand side of the frame is where the subject's face is when I take vertical portraits.

To demonstrate this, I took a sequence of photos with a target placed over each focusing point across the middle of a landscape image. These images are composited together below (I was focusing at f/1.4 on the bottom cross in each case, using a tripod, a 2 second timer, AF-S, and no IBIS).

Composition of test images. The focus point covered the bottom cross for each image.

This is a zoomed-in look at the focus targets. The top row is the targets I focused on, and the second row is a mirrored version of the same images to facilitate easy comparisons. You can see that the right hand images are much softer than their equivalent images from the left hand side.

Viltrox 23mm f/1.4 results: right side of the frame much softer than left side of the frame.

I don't think this is an artifact of my testing procedure: I have repeated it with the Viltrox and got the same results, and I also tested my Fuji 23mm f/1.4 and didn't see the same differences (if anything the right is a little sharper on the Fuji):

Fuji 23mm f/1.4 results: left and right side of the frame approximately equally sharp.

Do you think the Viltrox is performing adequately?

Can other people with the Viltrox 23mm f/1.4 confirm that their lens focuses well when using focusing points on the right hand side of the frame?

Given that this is the second copy of the lens that I've had with this problem, should I try a third copy or just give up?
