Check out this video I made 8 years ago: Don't let focus peaking lead you astray.

That's the issue I was driving at when I mentioned that the focus peaking level/intensity needs to be adjusted for the focal length.

It's not just "level", it's also resolution. When the focus peaking is done by analyzing the signal at the monitor, it's not going to be terribly effective if the resolution of the monitor doesn't match the resolution of the recording. That's why you need to be careful and why I recommend doing a test so that you know what you're getting.

It doesn't cost anything to run a test, there's no reason not to do it and it'll definitively answer the question and give you the confidence (or caution) that you need.

I see what you're saying, but I'm not sure if it always holds true, as field monitors and EVFs had 800x480 screens a decade ago, and they worked well with 1080P cameras (at least the better brands like TVLogic, SmallHD, and Zacuto). I suppose it boils down to the camera's/monitor's implementation of peaking.

Current field monitors have 1920x1200 screens, and the 7D only outputs 1620×910 effective pixels, so mismatched resolution won't be an issue in this case.
