One of the last two is what I'd recommend. I have the 200-500, though I don't use it nearly so much since I got a 500pf. (Size, weight, mostly). The 200-500 is an amazing lesn for the price, with world-class VR and excellent center sharpness. On DX it will look even better since the central area is emphasized.

My biggest complaint by far about the 200-500 is the slow zoom rate.

I also have the 300F4 AF-S and a 1.4TC for it. That's the best optics for 420mm for the price, but lack of VR and zoom do hurt.

Agree. I would go either 200-500 or the 300mm AFS with Tc1.4 of that list (and I have tried or owned most of them)
