For my wildlife shooting I've switched from nikon to the r5 (and now an r6 as a second body)...I like having the resolution of the r5 (just as I did when shooting the d850) for cropping of long distance subjects. While for a lot of things 24mp is plenty, the lower resolution of the r3 tradeoff vs higher speed isn't worth it for me. Heck I shoot the r5 most of the time in mech shutter to slow it down to 12 fps....For pros I get it, but for me 12 or 20 fps with the superb tracking of the r5/r6 is good enough...and given the big price of the r3 I can have both of the lesser canon bodies for less than the cost of one r3. I'm standing pat....although I am curious about the z9...

I'd go as far as saying this can be a marketing ploy, to create a positive spike once the actual MP of the R3 turns out to be higher than 24.

For whatever it's worth, I think I agree there is no confirmation until we have the camera released to ordinary mortals like you and I.

I'm going to go with the other way and say it's about tempering expectations.

At least when it does come out as 24MP, we can't act all surprised and outraged.
