With face tracking the M50 can adjust "the exposure" for the face in focus. I had this setting turned on most of the time. Although it doesn't show an adjusted ISO value, I think this adds noise.

At base ISO the sensor isn't class leading, but fine for me. But as soon as you're talking about speedlites most folks don't do this at low ISO values and when that "brighten up for the face in focus setting" is playing a role too the ISO noise can easily become the bottle neck for your IQ not squeezing the most out of your glass.
