Canon FD macro lens on EF mount

Hello all,

I’m interested in digitizing or scanning old negatives and was considering using my 5DsR along with a macro lens as a faster (and possibly cheaper) method than a scanner. I was thinking of either the Canon FD 100 f/4 or the 50 f/3.5. Both are listed on eBay at around $80US. I would rather get an FD lens over an EF lens as they are both cheaper and also enable manual selection of the aperture.

I would, however, need to get an adapter as well. Fotodiox sells one for about $35. The adapter also appears also to function as a 1.4 extension tube.

Does anyone have any experience using these lenses or the adapter? Is one lens superior to the other? All things being equal, I would prefer the 100 as I already own two FD mount cameras and each has a 50mm lens; unfortunately, neither is a macro.

Also, any thoughts about using FD lenses on an EF mount?

Thanks in advance
