Hi! I am looking for a sub $1500CAD birding and general wildlife lens, and I am wondering which one would be best? I don't do much BIF. Planning to get a D7200 with it (any other recommendations for body would be great as well)

Here are my current options:

$400 - AF 300 f/4

$700 - Sigma 100-400 C

$800 - AF-S 300 f/4 (non-PF)

$900 - Tamron 150-600 V1

$1000 - Sigma 150-600 C

$1400 - Nikon 200-500

$1500 - Tamron 150-600 V2

Any other recommendations are welcome!

You said you don't plan on doing BIF, any other info on what you plan to shoot?  How late/early do you shoot (ie. how much light is there)?  For versatility, the zooms would be better (in which case I personally would pick the Nikon 200-500mm since that is what I have but have seen great pics with both the Tamron and Sigma).

Also if you can stretch your budget to get a D500, IMO it focusses faster than the D7200 (have both).  Again, if you want to catch fast moving wildlife, than the D500 would be the better choice (for slower wildlife, the D7200 would be fine and much cheaper).  I am always amazed how good the D500 is (you can buy it used?).

A recent shot with my D500:

focussing fast with a D500
