DXO did this with the DXO One. I bought one and used it briefly, then occasionally. I still have it but seldom take it out of the drawer. My experience was that improvements in the iPhone camera system and the introduction of quality conversion lenses, negated the advantages of the larger sensor/raw image.

With better software it might have been more interesting but in the end it was, at least for me, an expensive (but not cripplingly so) experiment. I don’t regret the purchase but with hindsight I wouldn’t have made it.
