Shutter button activated AF behaves in a different way than back button focus does for some reason. I'm a back button focus shooter (at least I was) but given what I experimented with today and the results I got on various subjects switching back and forth between Shutter button and back button. I'm going to stick with shutter button and see if things remain improved. Again, I don't know why the AF system behaves differently for acquiring focus, but it seems much more accurate using the shutter button.
