The people that complain about size is because the options at the lower end that are smaller use hand me down old tech That just changed recently with em5.3, g100, em10mkiv and ep7 but just real relatively recently - and you can still argue they are a hit behind
no pdaf for em10.4 or ep7 for example
That's the problem I have with the current m4/3 lineup. The camera bodies with a design/size that really appeals to me are too limited and dumbed down.
But, if all the latest and greatest technology would be included in a smaller body, would you be willing to pay the same amount as the larger body, just to get that technology? I fear most would say no, actually just really wanting the same technology for a lower price.
So that would make a market of two, you and me, that would pay the freight.
I Would actually pay considerably more for a small but capable camera.
I'd certainly pay an extra $1000 for a GX9 with capabilities closer to the G9.
Obviously I don't know if there's enough demand to make a small but high end m43 camera viable.
Sony seem to have done quite well with the Rx100 series of compact cameras. They pack a lot of technology into a pocket sized camera and charge a premium price for it.
As I mentioned…. that makes two of us willing to pony up some cash for a premium small MILC camera. Maybe there would be more, but I suspect we are part of a very small group around here.
But, glad to know I’m not the only one….
I would also pay more for truly premium small body with high build quality, great VF.... I do think this is a niche market, but is it really more niche than Olympus' EM1X or even EM1iii...i'm not so sure...at least it may be a niche they don't play in today which would possibly draw additional users into m43. Olympus needs to expand its customer base
As I have noted several times on this forum, my camera club over the past three years has become almost 50% Olympus. We’re most all retired , have some disposable income, and like to travel. Almost without exception all converts came from Canon 1D series and initially bought an E-M1 II or II with a 12-100, and a 40-150 f/2.8. However the.trend is now to add a smaller kit to the mix with the E-M5 III most often the camera of choice. On our outings, unless action or BiFs are on the venue, the smaller kits are the most seen. Everybody is more than pleased.
