Maybe I should have added "has made" in my original comment.

You have added the following qualifiers in your replies:

  • Must be current in production
  • Available new
  • Available with warranty
  • Must have up to date specs

Yes, it must be current because you can't buy a new one, with warranty, with support. Basically it's out of the catalog.

All irrelevant as I made no indication in my original comment the gm camera is currently in production.

Your comment was made in the context of the options the companies bring to the table today as smaller models.

Context: I said panasonic went one step further "creating the gm series". It was smaller then anything olympus created in the mft mount (to my knowledge) that was main point. That holds true irregardless if it can be bought new (the gm5 can be bought second hand still actually).

No mention of if it being a current model in panasonic's line up. The original post listed all current olympus models, but no qualifier was made that they had to be available new. You added that qualifier and started on a different point. Any comment addressing the topic of historical availability/support I will not respond to. I am not interested in discussing if products that can only be bought used count as valid options today.

Really I should have should have added panasonic "has made". Would have saved you going on a tangent. The gm comment was merely an addition that Panasonic has created many different body sizes. That has nothing to do with current models as I did not say that they were.

Fact: the gm series was created by panasonic.

Yes it was. But it no longer is.

Fact: panasonic gm series is an mft mount camera made by panasonic

Yes it was, but it no longer available for purchase and catalog = no available in the set of things to buy for the system.

Let's say (for the sake of argument) all Panasonic And Olympus do moving forward is an EM1X body class camera line - this means that within a few years you can't buy anything new that is smaller size and available with warranty nor support (firmware updates).

We

Who is we.

don't count cameras from other manufacturers that were smaller - for example a Fuji Xtrans X-M1 which was quite small. That's long discontinued and done. The GM joins the same heavily halls.

You can't buy in the catalog, yo can't order from Amazon / BH Photo etc =. not an option in today's market.

Panasonic does have many different size bodies.

They have the G100 and GX90 now.

It is irrelevant if you can buy new.

It' snot irrelevant because it makes the option NOT available anymore.

I made no mention of if the bodies are available for purchase from the manufacturer in my original comment.

In the context of our conversation with market options, this matters. If you want to qualify as irreverent of age, time, outdatedness and non availability, then that Fuji X-M1 has long proved the Xtrans system is very competitive in size then. Sorry, just doesn't make sense.

You are arguing a different point. I suggest you go to the open talk forum and start a thread about if cameras that are discontinued but available used, can be considered an option.

Sorry but that's not the context we were talking about. Id on't believe this is a different point. Now, if you want to argue about the history of the manufacturer, that's historically fine but now I will call that irrelevant to the context under discussion.

Basically it's out of their options, out of their catalog. So in terms of today's market, what do they have? G100 is the smallest currently sold- which is pretty small, so ok.

In the context of the OP, part of the alleged complains is how both companies have moved away from small pro. The GMx no longer existing goes in that direction.

No longer existing =\= unsupported.

Long live the GM5 and long live the GM9 concept I wanted
