Yes, no FTZ involved. And the direct adapter is just a piece of metal, no electronics at all.

Maybe that's one of the differences between the Z7 and the Z7 II?

Have you checked your images' Exif data with exiftool, or how did you determine the absence of lens data?

I just used LR's EXIF field. It'd be pretty strange for it to read FL and aperture on files created with the FTZ, but not on those without, right?

If it's an advantage of the Z7II, I really, really hope that Nikon will add it to the gen 1 bodies, because I'm not planning to upgrade yet. Actually, all they'd be doing is restoring a feature that was there in the early FW versions, and then was quietly removed for no good reason.
