Re: Minolta XD-5 - (Unable to advance)

Hi,

from your description of the issue I'm not sure whether the problem is electronics (and thus possibly the capacitor issue FrancoD addressed) or more on the mechanical side.

Owning once the XE-5 and later also the XG-M I remember that the film advance lever was linked to several components like a dented film advance / guide just right beside the shutter (if you open the cam's back), of course the cocking of the shutter ifself and also the small rewind release button on the cam's bottom side.

Perhaps one of the mechanically driven components got somehow stuck - what you feel at the advance lever. If you open the cam's back, do you see the shutter curtain rise as you move the film advance lever? Same for the film advance/guide on the right? Do you notice any jam?

If I remember correctly in those times it was recommended to operate once in a while the shutter / film lever / cock the shutter / release it to avoid mechanical issues reletaed to longer periods of non usage. Perhaps your cam stayed unused too long. But perhaps gently moving gets it back into working order.

BTW my XE-5, while mechanically robust like several models of that times, was doomed twice by an internally broken on-off switch.
