I just think we Oly users are deluding ourselves if we think that Oly still has a distinct size advantage for anything other than telephoto…
I'm looking to pick up a compact camera - not a replacement for my DSLR kit (I'll move to some mirrorless system eventually) - just a body and a lens to carry around (I used to own an A6000 and 18-55 and carried it much more often than my DSLR). Something better (both IQ and usability) than my RX100.
Nikon z50 is an obvious choice - compact and with familiar usability given that I shoot Nikon.
Fujifilm X100V is sorely tempting, but I'm not sure I want to live with the single FL.
Fujifilm X-S10 is an option, but 18-55/2.8-4 makes it less noticeably less compact than the z50; I don't really need IBIS because I don't plan to shoot primes with it; and I don't see enough advantage to bother to learn a new brand/system.
E-M5 III is somewhat tempting, with 12-45/4. I wear eyeglasses and like the sound of the long eye relief. I could probably benefit from the WR body and lens at times. I like the idea of a really well built body and lens versus the plasticky Nikon. Price is higher but justifiably so. Biggest downside is having to be familiar with a second system. But I just wish it were smaller. I see the 12-45 described as tiny, but when I compare it or look at videos, it's not that small. I remember the early days of Sony e-mount when m43 users would bash Sony for the HUGE lenses on the tiny bodies, but that huge 18-55 is shorter than the 12-45. It's in the same ballpark as the Fuji 18-55/2.8-4. It's still a pretty unique combination, with good range, great (reviewed) sharpness and, of course, the WR build. I'm just not sure it's small enough to be that grab&go-everywhere camera I'm looking for. Hoping to have a chance to see it in person end of this week. But otherwise an Oly 14-42 kit zoom or Panasonic 12-32 just isn't that compelling to me. You'd think that when someone is looking for a small, quality kit, m43 would be the obvious choice, but it's just another option.
