This was a common problem with many film EOS cameras.  There was a small pad of rubber that damped the curtain at the end of its travel to prevent bounce.  That rubber turned to a gooey blob and smeared itself on the curtains.   The proper fix was to pull the mirror cage and shutter.  We usually replaced the blade set instead of trying to clean it. and then replace the pad with one that Canon hoped wouldn't remelt.

Cleaning the blades in place is possible, but probably temporary as the pile of goo is still in the bottom corner of the shutter. This was a problem with the Canons at least 20 years ago.
