How would you deal with serious backlighting like this?

Took this picture with my phone to show you the lighting I often have to deal with when I'm photographing events in outdoor pavillions where I DON'T want to use flash.

I exposed for the faces and wound up with really bad color that was hard to correct and I didn't always nail focus using Face Priority.  I haven't used it much with the EM1 iii, although I've had success with it on my Sony A7iii, which I didn't want to take because it weighs quite a bit more than the EM1 iii + Olympus 12-40 and with my back bothering me, weight matters.

Here's one of my less-than-stellar photos taken with the EM1 iii.  Raw was converted to tif with DxO PhotoLab and then brought into Photoshop for tweaking.
