Hi all, i bought a used lens (nikkor 17-55mm f2.8) yesterday and find out that the picture take at f2.8 and f22 are about the same (maintaining same shutter speed and ISO between 2 shots).

I dismantle the lens and check on the rear aperture blade lever. I pull the lever to the end and let go to check on the spring tension. I notice that it behave slower when it returning to the initial position, as compare to my new lens which return to the initial position in a blink of eye.

I also set the shutter speed to 10sec @ f22 and see how fast it stop down to f22. And yes, it still slower as compare to my new lens.

I would like to know anyone who experience this before and would like to know the cost of repairing. I bought this used lens @ $480. Is it worth to send for repairing?

Hi there. I think the problem is exactly as you described and I experienced it as well with this lens, except my observation was between f/2.8 and f/8, as this is how I happened to shoot when the problem surfaced. Perhaps it is a common problem with this lens. I sent mine to Nikon and they fixed it. Don’t recall what they charged, I think in the neighborhood of $300.
