Looking for a better computer . . .

I sold an old Windows 7 wordstation, and I'm thinking about building or buying an i9 system, but I can't help thinking it might make sense to buy a used workstation system with more RAM than I can afford. Building a new system I can only pay for about 32 GB of RAM, but I can get an older system with 128 GB of RAM for the same price it would cost me to build a new system, which would have RAM that's only slightly faster. What would you do? Is a lot of RAM advantageous for editing 4K video? How about for editing 8K video next year or the year after? I plan to buy a camera that can shoot 8K video, and this is why I'm considering building or buying a new or used computer system.

Currently what I have won't even allow me to edit 4K video, so I need SOME sort of newer computer anyway. I keep thinking 32 GB of RAM may end up not being enough.

Unfortunately, I don't have $10,000 to drop on a new, really powerful system. In fact, I'd like to spend under $2,000. A new Mac just won't cut it, because they're just too expensive, for what you get, it seems. A new build will cost me at least $2,000 . . . but if I buy an older workstation, I'm thinking I could get everything I want in a very powerful and expandable system for under $2,000, which would leave me some money to upgrade my video card to one of the newer cards with

I'd like to know your thoughts on this 8 GB or more of video RAM.

I wonder what your thoughts are about this.
